Grunntech GmbH was founded in 1991 in Zug, Switzerland by Grunntech Holding AG as an automotive branch of the Financial and Investment company. Six years on, Grunntech GmbH began development and production of automotive replacement parts and consumable materials.

The Finwhale trademark was registered in 1997. A year later, Grunntech GmbH began marketing under the brand autoparts and consumable materials. Grunntech GmbH is based in Mannheim, Germany.
